9:16 Placement Adaptation for Meta's Catalogs
Learn how to adapt your dynamic creativities to Meta's 9:16 placements
Adapting your visuals to 9:16 format can significantly enhance the effectiveness of your Meta campaigns, by delivering a seamless experience across Stories and Reels. This approach helps prevent cropping issues and ensures proper alignment of design elements in vertical placements.
Beyond visual improvements, this adjustment also contributes to better campaign performance. According to Meta, using 9:16 layouts can result in up to a 26% increase in CTR on Instagram Stories, with positive impact across placements such as Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, Instagram Reels and Facebook Reels.
Follow the steps below to create a 9:16 design in AMP:
- Access Creatives and select an existing layout or create a new one. Ensure that the first design is set to a 1:1 format as this design will be used as the main image link. You can verify the layout format from the Resize tab.

- Next, add an additional page to the design using the Multipage tool. Locate the Multipage menu around the design canvas and click the plus button to add a new page or duplicate the existing one.

- Once the new page is added, use the Resize tab to adapt it to 9:16 format. This new design will be displayed as an additional image link in the catalog.
- Finalize your design by reorganizing the elements using the Layers tab to ensure optimal composition and visibility.
- Click on the Preview menu, located on the right-hand side of the tool, to review how the elements will be displayed. You can preview the design using a random product from the Data Import preview or select a specific product ID from the Optimized Feed preview. Below the canvas, you will see how the ad will be rendered on the platform.

- Once the design is ready, navigate to Feeds to apply the layouts to your product set. Create a new Optimization with a layout transformation and select the recently created multipage design. Choose all the image assets you want to apply.

- Verify that the layouts have been correctly applied to the products. After updating the Optimized Feed, click on👁️preview and confirm that both a main image link in 1:1 format and an additional image link in 9:16 format are displayed. In Meta, navigate to Catalog > Items > Media.
- Activate the 9:16 placement in Meta campaigns. Once the updated information has been processed and uploaded to Meta, complete the setup by enabling the 9:16 placement in the campaign settings. Go to Ads > Advantage+ Creative, click Edit.
For updated versions of Meta Ads Manager, this functionality is already integrated by default. No additional toggle activation is required.

- Enable Adapt to placement toggle and click on customize. Deselect the Display showcase card checkbox to avoid displaying product in card format and only showcasing your 9:16 dynamic layout.
