Hashing user data on One Tag

Guide on how to automatically hash user data send to channels

What is the "Hash user data on the server" option?

The "Hash user data on the server" option is a feature provided by Adsmurai One Tag, which allows you to automatically hash the data sent to platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn through the Conversion API.

Why should I use the "Hash user data on the server" option?

Using hashed data is a requirement by most channels. If you don't hash it, you will see errors like "The em parameter isn’t hashed. Hash all user parameters as SHA256, except for client user agent, click ID, and browser ID. Any other user parameters that are not hashed are automatically rejected by Facebook."

It also helps protect the privacy of your users by encrypting personally identifiable information (PII) before it's transmitted to third-party platforms. It ensures compliance with privacy regulations and minimizes the risk of exposing sensitive information.

How do I enable the "Hash user data on the server" option in Adsmurai's GTM tag?

To enable this feature, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Adsmurai tag on Google Tag Manager

  2. Locate the "Server event parameters" section. Here, you'll find the option to "Hash user data on the server." Tick the checkbox next to this option to activate it. hash-data-gtm

  3. Save your changes: Once you've enabled the option, make sure to save your configuration settings.

  4. You will need to follow the same process in every single event in which you are sending personal information.
